Four hours outside of Bogota lies this incredibly well-preserved, beautiful village that has been declared a national monument, thereby protecting it from modernization.
Near Villa de Leyva, you can visit one the world's largest kronosaurus fossil, one of only four ever found of this enormous, water-dwelling animal.

Mud Volcano + Mangrove Canoe Tour
Highlight: Drifting slowly through tunnels formed by mangrove trees, and the zero gravity feeling of sitting/floating in volcanic mud.
A popular attraction 45 minutes from Cartagena, the mud from the Totumo Volcano is said to have great nutrients for your skin! After lunch, take a relaxing ride in a canoe as a buga, or canoe driver, paddles you through a mangal.

Highlight: Going from the shore to the peak of the island.
Both the nature walk and the horseback ride take you from the shore to the peak of the mountain on trails through the dry tropical forest. Historically, horses were an intengral part of life on the island. The walk takes 5-6 hours, while on horseback it's about 3 hours.
