The Chicamocha Canyon, formed during millions of years by the Chicamocha River, is a candidate for the New 7 Wonders of the World, and spans from Bucaramanga to San Gil and continues on, reaching a maximum depth of 2,000 metres (6,600 ft). From the cable car you can feel the climate change as you descend from fresh, cool temperature at the top to intense heat near the river.
On each of the of the cable car there is a small theme park area with a few attractions as well as restaurants, but the real highlight here is the view of the canyon. Near the park entrance you'll also find an impressive monument to the people of Santander, who are famous for having initiated the battle for Colombian independence.
The cable car ride is one hour each way. If you are connecting San Gil and Bucaramanga (about 3 hours apart), then we can include a stop here on the way, as the park is a good mid-way point along the route.
